Cone Beam Computerized Tomography (CBCT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologies are rapidly becoming recognized as valuable and necessary diagnostic tools in dentistry. These images not only enhance our ability to accurately plan implant procedures, but also provide benefits in orthodontic planning, evaluation of impacted teeth, periodontal disease, and endodontic anomalies. They also afford the restorative dentist an unparalleled ability to understand the anatomical basis for many forms of temporal mandibular (TM) joint disorders, a tremendous advantage when sharing this information with our patients during the co-discovery process.

Because these technologies have so rapidly become available and financially practical for the dental patient, it is incumbent on the dental profession to recognize their many applications. In this course there will be in-depth discussions of image interpretation, imaging protocols, radiation safety, and the specifics for ordering various scans. CBCT scans will be made available on-site for all participants thus providing them the opportunity to evaluate their own scans.
